Located within the downtown core of Greater Sudbury, the adaptation of the historic Roy’s Furniture building seeks to rejuvenate the depleting urban fabric and enliven the rising arts culture. The conceptual approach was informed by the site's immediate urban context, historical inhabitation, thriving arts culture, and the city’s future green focus. The main design response follows the adaptation of the past furniture building into a revitalized community hub acting as a beacon in the above categories and reincarnate to Durham’s street once vibrant past. The project is realized through the socialization of the galleries program and primary design strategies of connectivity, porosity, and transparency.
