An adaptation of John Hejduk’s Masque, this project holds a piece of myself in architectural translation. The project’s description was to look inwards as a precursor for design. The architectural manifestation of a wooden tower represents my best interpretation of myself in architectural form. From the materials that make the tower to it’s function for contemplation and observation, the tower mimics my spirit for adventure and discovery. The simple form encasing a more complex wood joinery interior describes layers of attention and refined detailing. The playful re-interpretation of a Dutch houseboat flipped vertically references ties towards my heritage.

A poem for the traveler:

When the waves toss you to and fro
Look-in look-out, and you’ll find where to go.
