An iterative design-build project, the pavilion is located along the annual Ramsey Lake skate path. The use of bentwood modular units enabled a flexible structure that mimics the movement and flow of the skate path. A vital parameter for the project was the pavilion's life cycle; the station is composed of natural wood-to-wood connections using twine and ancient milk-based glue recipes to form a 100% natural assembly.
Following the end of the skating season, the wooden ice station was disassembled into the two planes and laid in the forest to rest where it is currently decomposing with the second purpose of contributing to the renewal of Sudbury's depleted soil levels.
Personal contribution: design leadership, modelling, fabrication, assembly, and documentation.
